Injectors replaced.. now i have another problem

Postby Michiel88 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 6:34 am

My cannondale 440 speed 2002 don't start anymore. The engine turn over but will not start. I removed the airbox to see if the injectors spray enough fuel. But only one of the injectors work.. The other injector sprays a little bit of fuel. I'm sure the fuel pump is good.
now i want to remove the injectors and clean/replace them. i allready removed the clip but i cant pull out the injectors. Someone can help me please?

How can i clean the injectors or is it better to replace them?
And how do i know if the fuel pressure regulator is damaged?
Do you also know where i can buy new injectors? I'm from europe, the netherlands.

Thank you

Michiel

Update:
I replaced the injectors. Now the quad is running but sometimes when i hit the throttle there is no fuel returning to the tank and the engine shut down. Do you now what the problem can be? I thougth it was the fuel regulator but sometimes the engine runs perfectly without any problems but after a restart the problem is back.
Thank you for your help

Spray some WD40 or any lube where they stick in head then just keep wiggling the injector they will come out.

You should have 42-45psi.To test regulator you would use a gauge after eliminating other sources of restriction like the quick disconnects. To clean injectors you could take them to a shop which cleans automotive injectors or just get new ones.

Have you tried contacting SlOoT? he is on the forum and I believe has a buisness dealing with Cannondales, he is also located in the Netherlands.

It sounds like you may have a problem with grounds, check your negitive grounds by the fuel regulator, using a couple of star style lock washers will help with the ground.

What was the fuel pressure?
If fuel pressure is good and problem is intermittent than run the pressure gauge in line while it acts up next time you will know if its a pressure problem. Almost forgot, I had a problem stalling on hard landings and it was the red fuel pump wire at the pump ring terminal. I was doing a recal and it was pretty dark in the shop when I hit the start button I saw a spark at the pump.

1 - replace fuel filter even if it looks good. 2 - It may be your fuel quick disconnects acting up. Do a seach for this problem.

Have you ever taken the fuel lines off of the regulator? You may have them switched around on the regulator or one of the disconnects are clogging up on you.

Also make sure the fuel lines are not stretched upward too much off of the head surface when connecting the stock tank....when the tank is pushed back down and bolted in, the lines can tend to actually fold closed just where the fitting barbs start....the problem is worse on the return side. Or after connecting the tank, it's good to reach inside the frame and pull each fuel line forward, just to make sure they are not folding closed at the fittings. Also slide the insulation back at the male fittings to check the hoses. Any folding constriction will leave a permanent crease and damage to the hose.
