Pics of my Trinity port and polish head failure damage

Postby Alaskaspeed » Wed Mar 05, 2003 9:49 am

I posted a few pics of my totalled head, piston, etc. I had Trinity do a port and polish on the head and I wanted to post the results after 2 hours time on it. Trinity's response over the phone is questioning me over revving my quad. I have pics to show valve keeper failure after Trinity was the last ones to work on the valve train. I also have a pic showing the piston with NO evidence of a valve touching it after a full race season of me "over revving" as they say....Just an FYI to anyone out there wondering about Trinity's port and polish job..........JIM

Thanks, Jim.....I am in the process of hunting down a complete, ready to bolt on head assembly, new sleeve and piston. I believe I am joining a list of guys that had trouble with this port job; from reading through other forums......

I thought these things had a rev limiter; set to 11,800 as I recall?

Sorry about your problems. I think South Bay Moto and R&S are the only nice guys around. It's a shame we are now going to HAVE to talk about Trinty and the way they treat their customers !!

WHAT?

Postby mountainman10 » Wed Mar 05, 2003 2:09 pm

Over revving  That is the dumbest response I have ever heard. What did he think you were going do do after a port and polish? I know you are too far away to pay them a visit, but there is no way I would accept that response. Trinity owes you a head and what ever else was damaged because of it! And an apology for that lame excuse! I wish I could help you with a head, but I dont have one.

Ya know, thing is I never expected any type of warranty on how good the head flowed or didn't; I was strictly going by the name and reputation of Trinity........which I obviously had wrong.

I just don't think you do business that way and expect to keep in business. Then for him to finally offer to look at the parts and "see if he could find someone to blame"....at my shipping expense and loss of riding time of course...uhhh, thanks; but NO THANKS. He even only had time to stay on the phone with me for 2 minutes....that is great customer service seeing how my head was there an extra 4 weeks longer than he told me it would be originally; which I was expected to understand.

I never planned on doing anything but sing the praises of Trinity and the performance gains to be had through Harry's port/polish and valvetrain mods, instead I can only tell of lacking customer service and sub par workmanship.

I DON'T over rev my quad. I change the oil after every race weekend. I clean the air filter every weekend as well. I religously took time out during the week to go over the quad and make sure it was going to be ready to holeshot, jump, etc and stay running to finish. For Harry to throw out some lame, blind diagnosis about over rev is beyond me.

Ok, my rant is over..........................................JIM

Thanks for the post. Sorry you had that experience. I will not be using them on my wifes z400 now

I will use LRD instead. I am really sorry to hear that because I suspect Harry will pack his bags on cdale due to lack of understanding.

I hope you do ok.

Ouch! Hey, that's a different Harry, everyone, NOT Harry Moto!!!

Alaskaspeed, go back to your avatar and just save it again, that is what fixed mine when I got the 'Solid Solutions' thing instead of my icon. 8)

Overreving: I don't think it's possible. Unless the Quads are different, the ECU simply declines to let the motor spin faster than 11,800. When the injectors stop squirting out fuel, the RPM stops going up. Right now!

Even though,

I've never raced without not hitting the rev limiter, Over revved sounds like a bunch of BS. Sorry to hear of this. Good luck.

I have had spark plugs loose the electrodes before. Maybe that started the mess. Just a thought.

I cant tell you how bad I feel for ya , after looking at those pics. I can recall how much time you put into just keeping us updated on your engine work progress... I am sure you gave that much time attn to your engine as well.
I cant really speak about Harry @ Trinity, I dont feel I know him well enough, but Josh @ Trinity is a good friend of mine and I have talked to him about your engine. I talk to him almost daily.
Was it Harry that gave you the over-rev excuse? By the way that is B>S
I could go out here in my shop...start my bike, let it warm up to normal operating temp and hold the throttle pind (in Neutral) and I promise you the valves are not going to hit the piston and I really think that I would give in and and let off before the engine would give up. And you can tell Harry that.
I can get you a head... problem is cost. There are not a million of them out there. They are no longer being produced.
Oh yea... P>S> Harry has a head there. I am 100% sure of it.
Hope you get fixed up real soon.

This sucks

Someone needs to send Harry a copy of this thread and the other one's that Jim has started. Word of mouth is lightening fast on the internet, if he is not standing behind his work everyone is going to know about it ASAP.

He needs to make this right.

Maz, what did Josh say about this situation?
